What are the Children's Deformities?
Postural changes related to inadequate postures are disorders that usually manifest in adolescence and preadolescence.
Improper use of backpacks at this age, as well as the sitting position to watch television and use the computer may cause a worse problem, possibly causing injuries and deformities.
Learn the most common deformities in the children and adolescents.
Curved Back or Thoracic Kyphosis
Observing the child or adolescent sideways, we note the accentuation of skews. When there is a significant increase in thoracic curvature, (upper torso)we should have attention, because many exaggerated curves are labeled posture, but can mean a complex disorder of the spine. It is recommended to always seek an orthopedic specialist in the the subject for treatment or advice.
Lumbar concavity (lordosis)
It is a physiological curve located in the lower torso. When observed an accentuation of this curve, we call it the "accentuation of lordosis. In this case, over time, can promote degenerative spondylolisthesis and facet arthrosis.
Scoliosis
This is a three-dimensional deformity of the spine. It can be observed with the child or adolescent seen from behind, with the bare torso. Three observations can be made to help the perception of worsening of the deviation:
a) Difference in height between the shoulders.
b) Difference in the chest when compared with the other side one (hump).
c) distance of the arm and forearm to the trunk: a different side to side. The early diagnosis and treatment of spinal deformities produce better results in minimizing the effects of postural deviations. |
